D.A.R.E. Officer Mark Lingenfelser
The Leavenworth, Kansas, Police Department has a long tradition of selecting the Police Officer of the Year based upon the day-to-day performance of an officer. While we certainly like to honor those who are involved in a spectacular arrest or a sizable criminal investigation that nets the arrest of several criminals; we also like to honor and recognize those officers who come to work every day, work hard and are relentless in their efforts to positively affect this community . . . an officer who comes to work and quietly goes about the business at hand. The person chosen to hold the distinction of Police Officer of the Year for 2008 is Officer Mark Lingenfelser.
Most of you know Officer Mark Lingenfelser serves as the Leavenworth Police Department D.A.R.E. Officer and his individual accomplishments are too many to name. He has affected the lives of countless lives of thousands of kids as the D.A.R.E. instructor. He facilitates a number of community events such as our Police Department summer camps, the D.A.R.E. Festival, and Retro Bill.
Mark sponsors role models. He facilitates the Torch Run in May each year. Every time a member of the Police Department needs a power point presentation with music, Mark is the one we can count on to do the job.
Officer Lingenfelser teaches D.A.R.E. in ten schools. He organizes students to march in parades and organizes bowling and skating parties. He is always present at school functions, either during the day or after hours to represent the D.A.R.E. community and the Leavenworth Police Department.
